"Sense and Sensibility" autorstwa Jane Austen

Sense and Sensibility is the first ever written and published Jane Austen’s book. She was born in 1775 at Steventon in Hampshire, in the south of England. She started writing when she was only fourteen.

It’s a wonderful book about relations between two Dashwood sisters. They aren’t the same, Elinor is an introvert, but also sensible, Marianne is an extrovert and full of romantic feelings. One day, they have to move to Devon with their mother. They aren’t happy about that, because they don’t want to leave their family home, which is owned by their brother. They aren’t rich. The move changes their lives a lot. They experience romance, love and heartbreak there. They meet three men: Edward Ferras, the shy, Colonel Brandon, the quiet and insecure, Mr Willoughby, the affectionate and attractive. Is it better to show all of your feelings and emotions or to be calm and quiet? The sisters face the challenges of falling in love with them.

To sum up, Sense and Sensibility is a typical British classic. It’s valuable as a picture of England society in 18th century. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I recommend it to everyone.

"Wuthering Heightsautorstwa Emily Brontë

Is love always a happy experience? This is the question, which we should answer before reading Wuthering Heights. Written by Emily Brontë and published in 1847. She was born in Yorkshire. She spent most of her life in Haworth, studying, writing stories and poems, and walking on the moors.

The novel tells the story of Catherine and Heathcliff. Fate has brought them together when her father brought home a homeless boy and told her to treat him like her brother. Over time, they established a strong bond of understanding, which led to a deep feeling. A love that goes through all barriers, full of tragedy and drama. The tragedy is about that, the characters despite deep feeling - both are turning against themselves.  At the beginning, Catherine hurts him, by marrying someone else, and after that – Heathcliff takes revenge on her and her family.

In my opinion, Wuthering Heights is a book worth reading. It proves that, the people who love each other, not always treat each other gently. Sometimes, two lovers are kept apart by their families, and sometimes by the customs of their society, but in this book, the main force that keeps the lovers apart is themselves. I recommend it to everyone.

"Tess of the d'Urbervilles" autorstwa Thomasa Hardy

Tess of the d’Urbervilles is a touching and brave book. Brave, because author chose the female perspective to show controversial social issues. Touching, because author highlighted the unfair world and full of hypocrisy. Written by Thomas Hardy and published in 1891. He was born in 1840 in the village of Higher Bockhampton in Dorset, in the south of England. He loved the old ways and traditions of country life, which had been such an important part of his childhood and family background.

It told the story of a young girl’s life - Tess, which is slowly destroyed, by the people who tell her that, they love her. She’s uneducated and she doesn’t know the cruel ways of the world. One day, a rich man told her that he loves her. After that, her life is stained by his desires, and by death. The story lets us follow her change, because of the unfair fate. We can see all the time how is she losing joyful youth which fades into oblivion after suffering that even the closest people to her can’t understand. She tries to find a place in the world, in which she could be back herself, but even there, she remembers her past. All of the events haunt her and cause that, she will never forget about meeting with her cousin, who took her the most beautiful moments of her life. What can happiness be for a human?

I didn’t tell much about the plot, because events aren’t the most important part of the story. The more important thing, is the Tess’ change and contrast between her happy times in late childhood and a life as adult woman. In the end of the book Tess remembers best moments in her life, which seems to be her dream. The happiness leaves her, without coming back.

To sum up, Tess of the d’Urbervilles is a book worth reading. It encourages reflections, how has the women situation changed. The story is written beautifully but it also breaks a heart. I believed that her life will change and we might not get that ending… I recommend it to everyone.

I won’t tell you what happened because I wouldn’t want to spoil it, but it’s safe to say that you’ll be happy. Elizabeth Glibert’s book caused in me a lot of emotions. I read it just in one evening! It’s that interesting! What I loved about the book was the creation of main characters and world. I could easily imagine everything. I recommend it to everyone.

"A Christmas Carol" autorstwa Charlesa Dickensa

Does money bring happiness? Is it really true that if we were rich, we would be happy? Those are the questions which we should answer before reading A Christmas Carol. Written by Charles Dickens and published in 1843. He was born in 1812 in Portsmouth, in England. His family were bad at managing their money, and they were poor. He was sent to work in a factory at the age of twelve as a result of his father going to prison.

Ebenezer Scrooge is a rich owner of currency exchange which he has been managing for 7 years, because of his partner Marley’s death. He’s also moneylender. The most important things in his life were money and interests. He was extremely selfish, alone and he was saving at everything he could. He had colder heart than ice. No one wanted anything from him, even homeless people weren’t talking to him. When everyone was getting ready for Christmas, he was the only one who couldn’t  feel the vibe. He wasn’t celebrating Christmas any year, because in his opinion it was a waste of time.

One day, spirit of Marley visits him. He was pulling a heavy chain, to which he was handcuffed. He announced that, on Christmas Eve there will come three spirits to visit him. He also warned him, if he won’t change his behavior, he will end like him. Will Scrooge’s point of view on life change? Will he end like his ex-partner Marley?

What I loved about the book the most was the easy and understandable language, which brings the reader into the world full of Christmas atmosphere. It also encourages reflections about our behavior and attitude to life. I also loved the posters, which made it impossible to put off the book. It’s well-known for everyone, because it was a school reading.

To sum up, A Christmas Carol is a book worth reading. It’s perfect to read on Christmas, when we want to recall about the importance of love and generosity. It exceeded my expectations. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a beautiful story about inner change and magic of Christmas.

"The Cruel Prince" autorstwa Holly Black

Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t put down? The Cruel Prince was like that for me. It’s the first part of The Folk of the Air trilogy. Written by Holly Black in 2018 who was born in New Jersey, USA. She has got many literature awards, including Newbery.

It’s set in a world of Faerie and it tells the story of Jude and her sisters, whose parents were murdered in front of them. After that, the man who had killed their parents, brought the girls to that place. A bloody crime changes their lives forever. Jude must find herself and get a good role in the world of elves, but they are doing everything against her. To get a good position she must challenge prince Cardan. Someday, she finds out she is enough brave to cause suffering and even death to save herself and her sisters. If you hurt meI wouldn’t cryI would hurt you back. Is everyone evil by nature?

The character from the story, I definitely love the most is Jude. She’s strong and determined who has to face the challenges in the world full of magic and dangers. She’s also mysterious and unpredictable. She causes a lot of emotions in the story. In contrast to her sisters, she looks for revenge and tries the worst methods to make it happen. Her sister Taryn is guided by common sense and tries to keep her from falling into trouble with elves.

What I loved about the book was the creation of the characters. I could easily imagine them. The author also used the easy and understandable language. The plot is suspenseful and most of plot twists cause shock and surprise. She also described perfectly the family relations. The created world is beautiful.

All in all, The Cruel Prince is a really strong book which is worth reading. It exceeded my expectations. It not only encourages reflections, how the power can change people, but it also teaches that, the determination can help us to survive in bad situations. If you’re looking for heart-in-throat action, this book won’t disappoint you.

"It Starts With Us" autorstwa Colleen Hoover

It Starts With Us is a continuation of moving and romantic It Ends With Us. Written by Collen Hoover and published in 2022. She started writing for fun but it quickly became her passion. Hoover’s literary works took the first place on the list of New York Times bestsellers. Her childhood was hard – her own father was abusing her mother in front of her eyes. That is the reason why she decided to write this dilogy.

The action takes place after the end of previous part. Lily has found out that, the people who love us the most can also hurt us the most. Did she get herself up after the painful moments and divorce with Ryle? They both are sharing taking care of their daughter Emerson. Problem appears when she again accidentally meets her first love Atlas and decides to continue the relationship. For Ryle, Lily’s and Atlas’ relationship is something that makes him angry and causes a lot of negative feelings and emotions in himself. Lily is aware of that her ex husband does not accept her new partner. What will be the result of this? Will Lily be able to live a happy and peaceful life with Atlas?

The way, how the authoress lets us see the story from Atlas’ and Lily’s perspective is wonderful. In this part, I have found out a lot about Atlas’ past but I will not say what because I would not want to spoil anything. I also had the view inside his emotions and feelings to Lily. This part showed a lot about the impact on Lily’s mental health after the heartbreaking relationship with Ryle. It also showed how hard is it to become free from toxic relationship.

What I loved about the book was understandable and romantic language. It caused that reading this dilogy was unforgettable experience. Lily’s and Atlas’ relationship shows that, if someone is meant for you, life will bring you together.

All in all, It Starts With Us is a book worth reading. It not only shows how complicated are some people’s relationships but also how hard and painful it is to leave someone we love the most even if we only suffer. This part is like a cherry on top to previous part. You should definitely give it a go.

"Where The Crawdads Sing" autorstwa Delii Owens.

“We are all born alone and die alone. The loneliness is definitely part of the journey of life” (Jenova Chen)

Do you know this feeling when you are walking through the wild forest? Through swamps and other wetlands? When each step leads you deeper into a bush full of secrets and emotions?  Well, this book felt like this for me. Written by Delia Owens and published in 2018. She is the co-author of three international best-selling works of non-fiction literature describing her life as a researcher of African fauna and flora. She has won prestigious award “John Burroughs Award for Nature Writing”. She is also zoologist and environmentalist.

The main character is Kya Clark, who lives in an old cottage in the wetlands. Her childhood is not happy and colorful, her father is alcoholic and abuses the family. One day, she gets abandoned and must learn how to survive in the wild and dangerous wetlands. She lives in harmony with nature and her relation with environment surrounding her is important motif. Already as a beautiful and mature woman, she meets a man who treats her badly and considers her as his property. However, when it comes to crime, Kya – in the center of attention – is accused as a main suspicious.

The novel is about hard childhood and adolescence. After she gets abandoned, she still hopes that her closest people will come back. Even if they do not, it helps her to survive. The feelings, that are with her everyday are only loneliness and longing. We can see her power when she faces problems at every turn. One of her biggest advantages is determination and power of character. Despite her trauma from the past, she finds within herself power, to face challenges, which life puts on her. Furthermore, Kya is amazingly intelligent and observational, whose skills lets her not only read mysteries of environment but also of human nature.

The important part is also played by nature. It is her best and the most faithful friend. But at the same time, descriptions of nature and environment, also have symbolic meaning. Wetlands and wild forests symbolize not only isolation and confinement but also freedom and independence. It becomes a place in which Kya can feel closest to herself, where she is free and authentic. Environment shows the beauty and the power of nature but also it is unpredictability.

What I loved about the book was the creation of the main character and nature. It was easy for me to imagine. The authoress has also used the easy and understandable language to describe all of the events, happenings and especially – environment. It is amazing, how Owens combines the elements of nature and human denial. It is a book about love, hope, and betrayal. And all of this is put into unpredictable environment, which is peace but also challenge for Kya.

To sum up, Where The Crawdads Sing, is a book worth reading. Despite that, when the speed of narration sometimes slows, and plot becomes a bit longer, it is still wonderfully interesting and fascinating. The reader gets pulled into Kya’s world and can not put this book away till the last page. It is a criminal, which will stay in my memory for a very long time after reading it, leaving a big trail in my heart. A deep reflective and moving a lot of emotions book. If you are looking for heart-in-throat action, this literary work will not disappoint you. You should definitely give it a go.

"Better Than The Movies" autorstwa Lynn Painter

Do you know this feeling of a warm summer afternoon? When you are relaxing at the beach and watching sunset with your most loved person? And when sky becomes light-orange? When you think that your life could not be better? And when you are calm, not stressed about the future? This book definitely feels like it. Written by Lynn Painter and published in 2021. She writes romantic comedies for both youth and adults. She lives in Nebraska with her husband and loved children. And when she is not writing or reading, it is possible that she is watching romantic comedies and drinking energy drinks.

The main character is Liz Buxbaum, who loves romances, romantic comedies and a boy named Michael. He has already stolen her heart. When they were young, he had to move out and he left her out in the cold. After a long time, he finally comes back to the city as a grown and adult man. Now Liz tries to do everything to be seen by him and make a good impression on him. She even becomes friends with Wes Bennet – her neighbor and enemy from childhood. Unfortunately, not everything goes how has she planned. By the time, she gets along with him better, than with Michael. Liz is shocked that she likes spending time with Wes so much. Now, she must find out, what for her love really is and analyze everything she heard and imagined about it to this moment.

My favorite motif from this book is definitely from enemies to lovers. Liz is a girl, who falls into funny and embarrassing situations all the time because she likes Michael. She asks Wes to help her to get him. However, Liz has a competitor – her friend who is prettier than her and Michael likes her more. Ahead of her there are a lot of events before the readiness to come into the adult life: choosing dress for the dancing ball and many others. She has a lot of thing to rework, which cannot let her live a peaceful life. It is Wes who makes her open up for him. She starts to look at him differently.

What I loved about the book was the creation of main characters. Lynn Painters builds characteristic characters who cause sympathy. I also loved so much the interviews – they were excellent and so natural. The authoress’ writing style is much better than the other authors’ I had read to this moment. Furthermore, there are quotations at the beginning of every chapter. What more could I want?

To sum up, I have not laughed in such a long time. Every time during the reading I was bursting out laughing. The authoress has brilliant sense of humor – every author who writes romantic comedies should be like Lynn Painter. If you are looking for a book, by which you will forget about daily problems and if you want to feel better – it is perfect for you. You should definitely give it a go.

"The Wicked King" autorstwa Holly Black

Have you ever dreamt of traveling to a land full of magic, where secrets hide behind every corner? Or have you ever thought how is it to be in Faerie world? Where intrigue and politics decide about daily life? Where each step towards authority could be a trap? Where betrayal hides behind each smile? In The Wicked King you will discover that loyalty is one of the most luxurious values. It is the second part of The Folk Of The Air trilogy. Written by Holly Black and published in 2019. She is the #1 New York Times bestselling of fantasy novels. She grew up in New Jersey and loved reading and writing from an early age.

The main character – Jude – still has to deal with the royal court’s intrigue and politics, where everyone has their own mysteries, secrets and ambitions. When it comes to the daylight that in the Oak’s veins a royal blood flows and he has to make it to the day when he becomes king Jude has to maintain power over the new king – Cardan. Not only are alliances and arrangements still changing but it is also not easy for Jude to control Cardan. In this part also a lot of lies and chaotic events appear but in worse version. Everybody has to realize their plans and sometimes it is not known when they change their minds. Jude is still brave but has to face a lot of more problems and pressure. It was hard for her to make decisions in human world, without saying how hard it would be in Faerie world where blood can flow in streams.

Madoc is quite mysterious character in this part but I still hope that he will show his good side in the last part. But this time, my favorite character is definitely Cardan. His change that has been still in progress from the first part showed that, he has feelings and is not as dumb as he was before. Now he can make harder decisions. Furthermore, he is still sarcastic and arrogant but it has its aim. His relationship with Jude is amazing. I can even say that he “shines bright like a diamond”. He will not miss any occasion to make fun of Jude and despite that he is still fascinated by her. He is also a bit mixed because in first part he was kinda annoying, in this part was acceptable just to become annoying again. I wonder what he will be like in the last part.

The things I definitely loved the most about the book was created world and characters. Also author’s writing style is fluent and makes it impossible to stop reading the book. The world of Faerie has been extended by a lot of new interesting elements that make the plot even more gripping. It shows not easy decisions and mysteries. The interviews were also natural and understandable. The author has also used the easy and understandable language to describe all of the characters, events, happenings and especially – the Faerie world. It is amazing how Holly Black mixes natural world and humans with elves.

To sum up, The Wicked King is a book worth reading. It teaches that determination can help us to survive in many situations. It could be also said that this part, like the previous is a rollercoaster full of different emotions and feelings. It is the second time when author did not make any disappointments and I am willing how amazing will be the last part. Danger is also on each step and each character’s minds can change just in a split second. If you are looking for heart-in-throat action, this book will not disappoint you. I will certainly read the last part. You should definitely give it a go.
